“There’s no Plan B—only Plan A: to be a world champion, an Olympic champion.” For 20 year old Marco Langon, there is only one plan and that is to be the best. Not only the best as an athlete but as an overall human. For Marco, running isn’t just a sport, it’s a way forward that otherwise might not have been possible, a way of survival.
As Diadora’s first NIL athlete, Marco’s journey shows how a single passion can transform your life, shift a mindset, and inspire others to dream big.
Mind – The Mental Edge
Marco’s philosophy is that “pressure is a privilege”. Sure, anxiety and fear are natural emotions when trying something new or doing something that pushes you but when you think about it, these feelings are fuel, not weakness Marco implies. Marco values setbacks and failure and uses them as an opportunity to improve and sharpen his focus. Running is just as much mental as it is physical and Marco says “If you keep telling yourself you can do it, eventually you believe it.”
Body – The Discipline of a Champion
For Marco, the viewpoint that running was his way forward started in high school. Running was a way for him to build the future he wanted for himself and his family. He committed from an early age to living the life of an athlete. At Villanova, his days are built around structured exercises but he insists it’s not a burden, “I love the monotonous, structured life,” he says. “That’s what I always wanted.”
Despite his regimented training schedule, Marco still values the simplicity of running. He remembers running back in New Jersey in just sweatpants and along dirt roads, nothing serious, just getting a mental release from everyday life with his friends.“Running is just moving your feet with people you love. That’s what it’s about.”
Marco’s love for modern running athleticism and old school simplicity seamlessly meshes with Diadora’s own philosophies of being the leader in running product innovation while still staying true to tradition.
Spirit – Purpose Beyond the Track
As the oldest male in his family, running isn’t just about being the best, it is about responsibility for Marco. Running is a means to provide financial stability for his mother and his sister, a way to build a future. Marco says “I can’t afford to lose. I need to make sure my mom and sister are financially stable. That’s my motivation.”
Aside from his family commitment, Marco also deeply values his running teammates at Villanova and speaks about the importance of those relationships “My team—they’re my best friends. That’s what makes it fun.”
And then, the man who Marco credits for much of his inspiration and motivation is his high school mentor, Rob, who Marco considers a father figure. Rob saw potential in him, vouched for him, and saw a different path for Marco. He instilled values of accountability and resilience within Marco which has gotten him to where he is today.
Inspiration for the Next Generation
Even though Marco is still considered young himself, he is not naive as to think other younger and even older athletes look up to him and he takes pride in that. His one piece of advice is simple though: “Don’t worry about what others are doing. Don’t chase tech or records. If you love running, just run. That’s enough.”
It’s a reminder to all of us that running isn’t about the medals, it’s about the journey of simply running and movement.
The Road Ahead
Marco’s bold outlook on running, his future, and his goals are an inspiration to runners and non-runners alike. When Marco talks about his future, of course he is excited about breaking collegiate records, winning NCAA titles, and aiming for Olympic gold but he is equally excited about the journey to get there- all of the ups and downs. “I just love training. I love waking up and doing it all over again” Marco says.
This is Marco Langon. An athlete without a Plan B. A young runner who has made running his mind, body, and spirit’s purpose. His story reminds us that inspiration doesn’t come from outrunning fear, but running straight towards it.
